Install PesaTrack

Install from Google Play

PesaTrack is a free Android app.

1. Open the Google Play Store on your phone.
2. Search for PesaTrack or open the Play Store listing directly.
3. Tap Install. The download is small (under 20 MB).
4. Once installed, tap Open.

First launch

On the first launch you will see:

1. Welcome screen. A short summary of what the app does. Tap Get started.
2. SMS permission prompt. Android asks whether PesaTrack can read incoming SMS. Grant this to enable automatic transaction detection. Without it, the app still works for manual entry and imports — but the core “passive tracking” feature will not run. See Granting SMS permission.
3. Onboarding. A short tour of the Home, Analytics, and Budgets screens.
4. Analytics opt-in. An optional one-time prompt for anonymous usage analytics. It is off by default; skip it and the app works the same. See the Privacy policy for what analytics do and don’t send.

What to do next

• Let the app receive one or two M-PESA SMS. Open Home — the new expenses will appear categorised.
• Set your budget cycle: Settings → Month starts on. See Setting month starts on.
• If you have older M-PESA transactions in an inbox, use Settings → Import from SMS to backfill them in one pass.

System requirements

• Android 8.0 (Oreo) or newer.
• Enough free storage for the app database — a year of typical usage is under 10 MB.
